Owens Flooring Plankfloor is an unfinished engineered hardwood floor that looks and feels exactly like a solid wood floor. The wear layer of the floor is four times thicker than a traditional engineered wood floor. The 3/16 Inch wear layer is much closer to a solid wood floor than a thin veneer. With lengths up to 7 1/2 feet, you won't realize it is an engineered floor.
Because it is an engineered product, with a hardwood wear layer mounted to a Baltic Birch plywood substrate, Owens Flooring is much more stable. This means that seasonal shrinking and expanding are significantly reduced.
You can also install Owens Flooring anywhere in your house! It is safe to use above, on, or below grade, even over radiant heat! This makes Owens Flooring perfect for extending your hardwood floor over concrete slabs, or in basements, keeping the same look as your existing hardwood floors.
Owens Flooring Compared to Solid Hardwood Flooring
The image above shows the subtle difference in the wear layer of Owens Flooring compared to a traditional solid hardwood floor. The Owens Flooring has a 3/16" thick wear layer. The solid hardwood floor has a 5/16" thick wear layer. If you look at the solid wood floor, there is a recess wear the cleat or staple gets nestled. Subtracting that the wear layer on a solid wood floor is 1/4", only 1/16" thicker than the Owens Flooring products.
Owens Flooring Manufacturers both Unfinished Hardwood Flooring in the Plankfloor line, and Prefinished Hardwood Flooring in the Select line. There are a wide variety of species, sizes, and grades available in each.
