Northern Hard Maple is one of the hardest of the hardwoods. Its tight closed grain structure provides a very durable surface that uniformly accepts a variety of different finishes. Hard Maple will vary in color from very white colored sapwood to light amber and dark brown heartwood which often occurs in combination with numerous dark colored mineral streaks and sound tight knots.
