I got to visit with a customer today who is restoring an old warehouse space on the south side of Chicago in the shadows of US Cellular Field. After making some repairs to the floor, the sanding process has started on the 100+ year old Maple Hardwood Floor.
Once the sanding of the hardwood floor is done, the floor is going to be finished with 3 coats of Dura Seal Oil Based Polyurethane.
Here are some pictures of the space:
Why Quarts?
In July of 2009 Illinois adopted the East Coast’s OTC laws that limit floor finishes that are over 350 VOC to Quart Sized containers. There are 350 VOC Oil Based floor finishes, but they behave very different in service with regards to flow and dry times, and a lot of contractors still prefer to use the original formulas. For a larger job like this it add more time and labor, but for smaller jobs, quarts get closer to the actual job’s requirements so there isn’t as much waste.
