In this video, we are applying Basic Coatings StreetShoe Wood Floor Finish over a wood floor that had been treated with Basic’s Tykote Bonding Agent as seen in this video.
Basic StreetShoe is an environmentally friendly, two part water based hardwood floor finish that dries in 2 to 3 hours, and is fully cured in 7 to 10 days.
Instructions
- Stir the gallon to re-disperse any of the finish that has settled.
- Stir in the catalyst slowly. If you are using less that a gallon of finish, pour the appropriate amount of finish, and the corresponding amount of catalyst into a separate container.
- Once mixed, let the finish settle a few minutes.
- Pour a small amount of finish on the floor and using a Trim Pad or brush, cut in along your starting walls.
- Pour a line of finish, about 5 to 6 inches wide on the floor, across the floor boards. Get your roller wet with finish.
- Placing the roller past the line of finish, roll back towards you 3 to 4 feet, roll forward past the line and feather up at the end. Move the roller 6 or 7 inches to the side and repeat the process. Continue to do this until you have completed this section of the floor.
- Pour another line of finish where you pulled the original section to, cut in the walls and repeat the rolling process.
Useful Tips
- Let the finish dry for at least 30 to 45 minutes before adding any airflow to the room, whether that be fans or opening doors and windows. If you do use fans, be sure to have them facing out of the room, away from the floor finish.
- If you find your roller sliding, or not rolling, you have too much finish on the roller. Roll of some of that excess floor finish on a dry section of the floor in an area you are going to coat soon.
- Always try to leave a “Wet Edge”. A wet edge is a wet amount of finish. If you spread finish too thin, it can dry faster, and can leave an uneven finish surface when you get to that area to coat.
- Clean up your tools with warm water and soap. If you are going to coat again in an hour or two, you can wrap the roller or applicator up in a plastic bag so it won’t dry out.
